Proper skin care after injectables is very important, as is the treatment itself.
Regardless of whether you used hyaluronic acid filler, mesotherapy, PDO threads or Botox you should follow the rule to reduce any possible irritation and make the effects last much longer.
Mind you, it does not have to be a rule, but there are many treatments that work on the principle of controlled micro-damages of the skin and thus force it to regenerate. This means that, at least for some time, it should be treated with special care. Properly selected home care is crucial if the skin is to recover and fully benefit from the beneficial effects of the treatments.
It should be remembered that it all depends on what treatment was applied, because the skin recovery may be different after hyaluronic acid versus mesotherapy or Botox, not mentioning PDO threads.
Skin care before and after hyaluronic acid
A few days before the procedure of administering hyaluronic acid, avoid taking medications that inhibit platelet aggregation; non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal preparations of Gingko Biloba, Aspirin and vitamin C.
On the day of the treatment do not use the sauna, solarium, steam bath, etc., as well as avoid intense physical activities.
After the treatment with hyaluronic acid, it is very important to avoid fluctuations in temperature, especially during the first 48 hours to 2 weeks after the procedure, again do not use the sauna, steam bath or solarium.
It is not recommended to stay in the temperature below 0 degrees Celsius for a long time but also to sunbathe.
- Immediately after the procedure, the injection sites should be kept particularly clean (do not touch the area).
- For 3 days after the procedure of administering hyaluronic acid, you should not swim or undertake strenuous exercise.
- For at least 4 weeks after the hyaluronic treatment, procedures such as laser therapy should not be performed in the area of filler injection due to the possible faster degradation of the administered preparation.
- After the procedure of lip augmentation do not drink very hot drinks and avoid kissing for the first 24 hours.
- No makeup should be applied for 12 hours after the injection.
In case of any doubts or side effects after the procedure based on hyaluronic acid, you should immediately contact the injector who performed the procedure.
Skin care after mesotherapy
It is important that the skin is cleansed in the morning and evening. Choose something that is gentle on your skin, such as a lotion or micellar water. For the time of skin regeneration after the treatment, soap or too irritating detergents in gels or foams should be avoided.
During a series of treatments, it is worth enriching the care with an antioxidant serum that adds radiance, like vitamin C, white mulberry extract, green tea extract, or a moisturizing & soothing serum with hyaluronic acid, peptides, licorice or betaine extract.
You should also remember to use a high UV filter which will protect the skin against unpleasant consequences in the form of discoloration. Remember to drink plenty of water, eat a balanced diet and be physically active.
Skin care after treatments with PDO Threads
The procedure starts with local anesthesia of treated skin and the insertion of thin needles under the skin, around which single threads are wrapped. The needle is pulled out of the skin while the thread remains inside.
They are hammered at an angle or parallel to each other to form an invisible scaffold to lift the skin. The procedure takes from 30 minutes to an hour. A good specialist should predict how the patient’s face will change after the procedure.
You may experience discomfort, swelling, bruising or itchy face after the treatment. Some specialists recommend using an ointment or an antibiotic.
From 2 to 3 weeks after the treatment, facial expression, face massages , peelings and shaving should be limited so that the threads fit properly under the skin. The effect of the treatment lasts for about 2 years, but its durability depends primarily on the patient’s metabolism.
Skin care after Botox/Dysport
The goal of Botox aftercare is to encourage optimal treatment results. It can also minimize the risk of bruising and spreading to other areas.
Generally, on the day you get Botox, it’s a good idea to:
- Gently exercise your face, relax for the rest of the day,
- maintain a normal heart rate,
- avoid touching, rubbing, or physical pressure on the affected area
- Avoid laying down for 4 hours and wait 24-48 hours to workout (including yoga) after your Botox injection,
- Do not receive facial, massage, laser treatment or other skin treatments like microdermabrasion or chemical peel after botox/dysport injections for 14 days.
Resume your normal skin conditioning and hydrating routine the same day.
You will start noticing the results within 4-7 days after the injection. For some people the results appear fast, and for others it takes up to 2 weeks to see full results.
It is completely normal for small bumps to appear but they should disappear within 30 minutes after the injection. However, sometimes, as a result of a bruise, a bump can last for one of two days. If you are getting a bruise, avoid using alcohol, ibuprofen, or caffeine. Try taking an Arnika or icing the area.
Some medications might increase your risk of bruising. Be sure to ask your doctor when it’s safe to start taking them again.
